Calculated variables: a value that works itself out

A calculated variable has no typed value: a formula calculates it from other variables. For example Full name = first name and last name, or Budget left = total budget − budget spent.

What they are for

Create one

  1. Open the start block of the process (or artifact), Variables tab, then Add variable.
  2. Choose the Calculated scope, give a name and choose the type of the result.
  3. Write the formula. A message under the box says what is wrong, or the type of the result. While a formula is wrong, Save stays disabled.
